New Funding Will Support Establishment of a Permanent Home for San Antonio nonprofit

[San Antonio], [August 28, 2012] – Valero Energy Foundation is giving $1 million to the Dress for Success San Antonio’s capital campaign, becoming the largest donor to date in the planned relocation and expansion of the agency.

The expanded facility — which will be made up of almost 16,000 square-feet — will be housed at its new location downtown in the Frio corridor, an area that will allow the agency to be of maximum support to those they serve.

In order to be closer to its clients as soon as possible, Dress for Success San Antonio will move from its current location to the new location at 600 North Frio within the year and the expansion work will be conducted in a manner to allow Dress for Success to continue to serve its clients from the new, more convenient location.  Valero’s contribution will fund the purchase of the building and the initial, limited work needed to move into the new location.

“Valero is a long-time supporter of agencies that reach out to those in need in San Antonio,” Valero Director of Community Relations Sylvia Rodriguez said. “By supporting Dress for Success San Antonio’s new location on North Frio, Valero will have helped increase the number of clients that the agency is able to serve, and in particular it will have helped increase the level and types of services the clients will receive.  The donation fits in with Valero’s support of other agencies located near the Haven for Hope campus that provide services to those in need.”

Valero’s donation brings the capital campaign to 25 percent of its $4.1 million goal.  Dress for Success San Antonio also received a gift of $150,000.00 from the Ewing Halsell Foundation.

“Dress for Success San Antonio is so fortunate and so thankful to receive such substantial gifts, and Valero’s generosity cements our ability to move where our clients need us to be,” said Pamela Taylor, CEO/Executive Director of Dress for Success San Antonio.  But the campaign is not over, she added.

“Although the momentum is strong, we now need to raise the money that will allow us to fully renovate and expand the facility,” said Pamela Taylor. “This contribution is essential to our conversations with other philanthropic individuals, companies and foundations whose priorities include helping end the cycle of poverty and homelessness in San Antonio.  Community support and confidence like this helps us in fulfilling our goal of helping our clients not only find employment, but also achieve long-term self-sufficiency.”

Lisa Hodges, an attorney at Valero and a board member of Dress of Success San Antonio, expressed pride at the company’s gift. “Valero’s ongoing support and commitment to helping people with their basic needs and also that next step of changing lives through targeted programs is a perfect fit for our mission at Dress for Success San Antonio,” she said.
