Chamber Rings Bell for Educators

Sch Bell Winners Group Photo Laredo (May 20, 2015) — Eleven Laredo educators were recognized by the Laredo Chamber of Commerce last night in recognition of their performance.  These eleven individuals represent all levels of the educational spectrum.  Each of them was presented with the Chamber’s special School Bell Award.  The Chamber annually organizes this competition, where teachers from the elementary grades all the way into the higher education level are selected based on dedication and commitment to the field, accomplishments and community involvement.  Annually, the College of Education at Texas A&M International University and Family Chevrolet collaborate in the organization of the event.

                Participating in the Award Ceremony program were Mayor Pete Saenz, who presented certificates to the honorees on behalf of the City of Laredo, and Family Chevrolet/Nissan’ Greg Morgensen, who presented individual checks of $250 to each of them also.  Chamber Chairman of the Board David Newman officially welcomed the guests on behalf of the organization, while Dr. Thomas Mitchell, Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at TAMIU, offered welcoming remarks on behalf of TAMIU and the College of Education, who sponsored the evening reception.  Chamber CEO Miguel Conchas served as emcee for the program.  The event was also marked by the presence of UISD board members Judd Gilpin and Roberto Ramirez, LISD Superintendent Dr. Marcus Nelson, and Superintendent for the Catholic Schools of the Laredo Diocese Dr. Rosa Maria Vida

                School Bell Award winners are selected from the many applications submitted by the Chamber’s Education committee, which is composed of educators, business representatives and public servants.  Miguel Pescador, Purchasing Agent for the City of Laredo, is chairman of the committee.
